Royal Canin Mini Breed Poodle (30)

Royal Canin Mini Breed Poodle (30) Review

Royal Canin Mini Breed Poodle (30) ....back up their claims. Beware the argument that corn and other cereal products are "useless fillers" when used in pet foods. Royal Canin has a wonderful page on their website [...] that explains why these arguments are not valid at best and downright misleading at worst. Beware Brands that tout themselves as "Holistic". If you research holistic medicine and it's nutritional analogs you will find that they do not hold up under rigorous scientific scrutiny. To be blunt about it most claims of "holism" ect.. are in my opinion nothing more than modern day unregulated quackery. The pet foods using these labels are probably perfectly safe and offer decent nutrition but their claims of superiority are way overblown. As a Biologist I looked at many different pet food brands before settling on Royal Canin and no other company matched the level of quality and overall commitment to understanding and providing the optimum scientifically based diet for my pet.

Royal Canin Mini Breed Poodle (30) Experts agree that the Poodle is one of the oldest breeds specializing in hunting after game in the water.

Dogs With Sore Eyes

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Allergic conjunctivitis, as well as sneezing and other evidence of allergy, is increasingly common in dogs. This may be related to where they live, or to changes in their immunity due to, for example, diet and exercise.

Conjunctivitis is inflammation of the conjunctiva, a layer of skin over the inner surface of the lids. Allergy occurs when the immune system over-reacts to a stimulus, mistakenly thinking it is an infection or cancer that it needs to fight off.

A dog with allergic conjunctivitis is likely to have redness, swelling and watering of one or both (usually both) eyes. There may be thickening of the conjunctiva, and if the dog is irritated to the extent that it scratches the eyes, there may be corneal abrasions and other eye damage.

No treatment ("watchful waiting") is a valid option if symptoms are very mild. Allergen avoidance is important, as far as it is possible. Bathing the eyes with a cool damp flannel may relieve some of the soreness and itching.

More severe allergic conjunctivitis will be treated with anti-inflammatory or antihistamine eye drops and ointments, and if any secondary bacterial infection is suspected, an antibiotic drop may be added. In severe cases a steroid drop will be used if treatment is otherwise unsuccessful.

Allergen testing may be needed to find the cause of the allergy.

Most holistic therapists and vets will look to the diet for a source of allergy. It is worth trying a hypo-allergenic diet. In addition, allergens are often airbourne, so it is worth looking at environmental dust and pollution. Antioxidant supplements can help boost the immunity and reduce allergy.

Herbal Remedies: Burdock, Rosemary and Meadowsweet can all help with allergic conjunctivitis. Burdock (Arctium lappa) helps with detoxifying the tissues; Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria) is antiseptic and anti-inflammatory, and Rosemary (Rosemarinus officinalis) is another antiseptic and disinfectant. The eyes can be bathed in a decoction of fennel seed (Foeniculum vulgare), Eyebright (Euphrasia officinallis) or elder flower (Sambucus nigra) to reduce soreness and inflammation.

Homeopathy: Apis mel can be used to rinse sore eyelids; arsen alb is used for more watery eyes.

Relaxation therapy, spiritual healing and general stress reducing measures will aid recovery from allergic conjunctivitis, as well as other ill-health. Healing work on the Brow chakra will particularly benefit the eyes.

Blue lace agate is useful for eye problems when using a crystal healing.

Flower Remedies: Bach remedies will help an underlying emotional problem which may be contributing to reduced immunity and allergy.

Is an Alaskan Malamute a Good Pet to Have?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

You don't have to live on the frozen Alaskan tundra to want an Alaskan Malamute sled dog for your very own! These massive wolf-like companions are some of the friendliest pets you could own. There are a few Malamutes (Mals) that haul people, freight or heavy objects, although most dogs are used for show or as pets. While this breed can pull hefty weight, they are generally not well suited for long distance races, in which case, the Siberian Husky, Alaskan Husky or Eskimo Dog would be a better choice, since they are breed for agility.

Alaskan Malamutes are a very affectionate breed of dog that thrive on human companionship. Ideally, your pet will be able to come and go as it pleases through a doggie-door, having the freedom to lounge outside in the shade or be at the heart of human interaction on command. Speaking of "commands," Mals can be stubborn dogs if you don't take the time to train them when they're young.

Don't worry: they are intelligent and quick learners if you use positive rewards. Be sure to let them know who's the "Alpha Dog" in your house early on! This breed gets bored easily and needs a lot of exercise. Your Malamute may be a digger, so it's best to set up a shaded area where your dog can dig his paws into the cool dirt if need be. If you're looking for a guard dog, then forget it; this breed enjoys humans far too much!

While the males are sometimes aggressive with other males, Mals are said to be good family pets. If you have cats, small dogs or farm animals, then you may want to reconsider getting this sort of breed. Perhaps it's the hunter instinct that emerges, but this native Alaskan canine does not typically get along with other small mammals. One of the things you'll come to love about your Mal is its "Chewbacca" woofs. While they're a generally quiet dog, they do like to talk a bit, and sometimes even howl like a wolf!

Have you ever wondered, "What are the differences between the Alaskan Malamute and the Siberian Husky?" Well, first consider that the Malamute was bred to carry a heavy load, whereas the Siberian Husky was bred to carry a lighter load over a longer distance. So naturally, Malamutes have a larger bone structure, while Huskies are much smaller and more agile.

Mals have brown eyes only, whereas Huskies can have blue, gray, brown, or a mix. Malamutes also have ears that sit further back on the skull, broader heads, bulkier muzzles, a sloped back (versus the straight back of the Husky) and a waving plume tail (rather than the traditionally trailing tail of the Husky). The personalities of both breeds are very similar by nature.

If you like what you've read, then an Alaskan Malamute may be the ideal breed of dog for you! They've got a little of everything, it seems.

If you're looking for a companion, rather than an accessory, then you've made the right decision. You may not have a sled to pull, but if you have a strong desire for an animal that can run, play, walk and entertain, then the Mal can make the ideal pal!
