4. Working in a awful ambrosial area

The first one is a basic search, a few obstacles, nothing too hard other than the fact that she's at the agility center and there was a class about an hour before we got there, so it had lots of dog and food smells all over. In the second, a box up is on a chair and the scented one on top of the tunnel. The third is tougher--the box is under the blue stairs. She works a big space, but clearly is being pulled to the area of the stairs. I'm guessing the 'scent cone' is causing her to circle around and around the area. She never gives up. And eventually, she finds it. The fourth is just a straight line of boxes--it's something I've not done so I decided to try it to be able to watch her. There is no food in the box, I'm just running in to reward after she figures it out. I'm seeing head turns, but nothing I can pinpoint as a standard 'indicator' of the 'find. I'm guessing that will eventually happen as we do this more and more.

How to Make Your Own Homemade Catfish Bait

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Have you ever been fishing and witnessed someone catching all the fish? I have many times. When I see someone hauling in stringers full of fish I get very curious. On occasion, I have asked about their secret techniques pertaining to equipment and bait.

A lot of times I will get the polite smile and response such as "just lucky today" or "you know...same ol' stuff." I'll ask what type of bait and that is usually when I will get the silent treatment. The typical response, "sorry, secret family recipe" or "if I tell you, I'll have to kill you."

Through the years, I have collected some very useful information concerning fishing baits. The most important realization was that the people who were catching the most fish were not using store bought baits. It seems that they made their own baits.

Some anglers in the past divulged some secrets pertaining to their baits. I thank them for it. I have developed my own formulas but this is not the time or place to reveal them. However, I have compiled the main ingredients found in the most potent catfish bait formulas.

I want to encourage you to develop your own formulas based on these ingredients found below. You will notice that these ingredients are easy to find. You can find the majority of the supplies at a well stocked grocer.

When developing your own formulas, do not use all the ingredients listed. Just take three or four items and see what happens. You are not bound to the items listed below. Feel free to test others.

I have found the most important aspect of making your own bait is testing. You will need to test your homemade bait several times because maybe a certain day, the fish aren't biting, or there are no fish, or some other variable that has nothing to do with the potency of the bait. Bring several batches of your baits on your fishing outing and test several to increase your chances of success.

Another tip is to write everything down. You don't want to develop bait and find that it is successful only to realize that you forgot how to make it. Also, you can make batches of bait for literally pennies a pound. You may store the batches in zipper plastic bags in the freezer.

Since these ingredients are for developing catfish bait, I will warn you ahead of time to do your experimenting in the garage or outdoors because some of the ingredients have a pungent smell and some create a mess.

1) Uncooked oatmeal - popular as a base (keeps all the ingredients together in a doughy mixture)

2) Baking flour - another popular base

3) Corn and wheat flakes or similar types of cereals - base to keep bait on hook

4) Water - required in most cases to help make the mixture workable

5) Garlic salt - found in most store bought baits (probably a good idea if you used it also)

6) Garlic powder - similar to salt but may alter the fish attractant properties

7) Can of tuna - found in many homemade bait recipes. Maybe the old timers know something.

8) Anise oil extract - almost a requirement for all types of fishing bait

9) meats from the meat counter (raw livers, brains, fish parts) - the more blood, the better

10) canned or packaged meats such as cat food, dog food, spam, sandwich meats, hot dogs - an alternative to the raw meats

11) cheeses - smellier the better - think limburger or rotten cheddar

12) miscellaneous - fish food pellets, cattle feed pellets, molasses, gelatin mixes, can of corn, strawberry soda, bbq sauce

13) Zipper storage bags - great for mixing your ingredients, storage, and taking to fishing hole.

Remember, if it smells, is bloody, or rotted, it might be a great addition to your catfish bait formula. I hope this will information will get you started in developing your own secret catfish bait.

The most important tip of all is to remember to have fun. Share the experience with your family and friends. Have contests on who catches the most fish with his or her bait. I guarantee you will remember the fishing stories for the rest of your life.

Baby Food Stains and How to Get Rid Of Them

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There is nothing worse than ruining one of your baby's best outfits with a baby food stain. Just one small drop of baby food can quickly ruin an entire outfit. However, there is hope. Baby food stains do not have to ruin your infants clothing. There are some simple steps to both prevent the stains from happening, as well as removing them if they should happen.

First, begin by always using a bib. A baby bib will simply help to protect your baby clothes from the baby food. Often times it is easier to prevent a stain from occurring, than trying to remove the stain afterwards. You can also give your baby smaller bites. This will help to eliminate excess food spilling out of his or her mouth.

Should your baby's clothes still become stained from the baby food, there are some quick and easy steps you can take to remove the stains. It is very important that you never iron or dry the clothes in the dryer until the stain is completely removed. Otherwise the heat from the iron and dryer will permanently set the stain into the clothes.

Often times a liquid detergent will help in removing the baby food stain. Simply put the detergent directly on the stain and let it sit. The worse the stain is, the longer you will want to leave the detergent on. After the detergent has set a while on the stain, rub the detergent into the stain. Afterwards, rinse the garment completely. If the stain is completely gone, you can then launder it like normal.

Another method you can try for removing baby food stains is to lather the stain with shaving cream. You can put the shaving cream directly on the stain and let it soak for approximately 30-60 minutes. You will want to make sure that you use foamy shaving cream instead of the gel shaving cream. After the shaving cream has set for a while, rub the stained area and then rinse. If the stain is completely gone, you can then wash the clothing like normal. If the stain is still there, you can repeat the above steps in order to completely remove the stain.

Hydrogen peroxide and water can be mixed together to help remove baby food stains. Use 50 percent water and 50 percent hydrogen peroxide. Spray the mixture on the stain and let it stand for approximately 30 minutes. You will then want to rinse the stain with a mixture of 50 percent water and 50 percent vinegar. After the garment is completely rinsed, you can then launder as normal.

There are a variety of store products that work great on baby food stains. You can pre-treat the stains with either Shout or Zout. You can then let the garment sit for a while and then launder as normal.

Baby food stains do not mean that you have to toss your baby's clothes out. There are a variety of different steps you can do to try and prevent the stains. However, if your baby's clothes still manages to get stained, there are a variety of different tricks you can try to remove the stain. It is important that you completely remove the stain before placing the clothes in the dryer. With some simple prevention and stain removal methods, you can keep your baby's clothes looking brand new.

Australian Shepherd Dog Breed Information

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Description: The Australian Shepherd is a medium sized herding dog. The males are found to be 20 to 23 inches at the withers, with the females 2 inches less. This dog weighs between 40 and 65 pounds, depending on its sex. The Australian Shepherd has a relatively long coat with a dense undercoat. The coat can be found in a variety of colors including blue merle, red, black, and red merle. The dog's eyes can be amber, blue, or brown. The tail is often naturally short, but is sometimes docked. The Australian Shepherd lives from 12 to 15 years. The Australian Shepherd is also called the Blue Heeler, California Shepherd, and Bob-Tail.

History: Oddly enough, despite its name, the Australian Shepherd did not originate in Australia. It had its origins in the Pyrenees Mountains, somewhere between Spain and France. Bred by Basques, the dog went with its owners when they emigrated to Australia. During the 1800s, the Basques migrated again, this time to the United States, and introduced the breed here. Once here, the foundation stock was bred with Collies to produce the dog with which we are familiar today.

Temperament: The Australian Shepherd is a playful energetic dog that needs to interact with its human family. It is good with children and enjoys active play with them. As with most working dogs, the Shepherd is intelligent and easy to train. This dog has a high energy demand and must be given plenty of exercise. It originated as a working dog and will be happiest if given some 'task', even if that task is running next to a bicycle or learning agility skills.

Health Issues: One rather odd health issue with the Australian Shepherd concerns any breeding between two merle dogs. This crossing can sometimes result in deafness or blindness in the offspring. Care should be exercised to choose a suitable mate for the merle dog. Serious spinal problems can arise if bob-tail dogs are bred to bob-tail dogs. The Shepherd can also suffer from cataracts. Hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism can also occur in this breed.

Grooming: The Australian Shepherd, despite its rather long coat, does not require extensive daily grooming. An occasional brushing will keep the coat in good condition. The only exception to this is when the undercoat is being shed. At this time, the dog needs to be combed or brushed to remove the loose hairs. The ears should be kept clean and dry, and if the dog has been in running through brushy areas, check for ticks and fleas.

Living Conditions: Although the Australian Shepherd loves to be around its people, it is not a suitable dog for living in an apartment, it is much too active inside. If kept in a confined situation, it will become bored and destructive. An active family that loves outdoor sports and activities is the best owner for this dog. The Shepherd does very well on farms or ranches where its guarding and herding instincts can be used. This dog is capable of living outside, but as it bonds closely with its human friends, it is best kept near them.

Is an Eskie Right For You?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The Miniature Eskimo dog resembles a mini Samoyed. These charming dogs are also fondly known as "Eskies" and they are sometimes referred to as American Eskimo dogs. There is an Eskie for all size and home requirements: toy, miniature and standard. The Miniature Eskimo dog is a striking breed with its thick, luxurious white coat, but as is the case with most Spitz breeds, its fur is dense and it has an undercoat which sheds a lot requiring a lot of regular grooming. Some specimens have blue eyes but only dogs with brown eyes can be shown.

They are thought to be descended from the German white Keeshonden or large Pomeranians and were brought to the United States in the 19th by German immigrants. The Miniature Eskimo eventually became known as the American Eskimo dog. They were very popular in the 1930's through to the 1940's as circus dogs due to their high intelligence and athletic ability.

The American Eskimo is a very playful and affectionate dog. They make excellent dogs for households with children in them because of this playfulness and love of companionship. Highly intelligent dogs and eager to please, they are easy to train and are among the top scorers in many obedience trials. They are very active dogs that crave attention and this can cause them to develop problematic behavior if you don't have the time to devote to them. While being allowed some free time in a yard is adequate, these dogs need to go on walks to satisfy their migration and pack instinct.

The Miniature Eskimo dog, being of a high strung nature can become an obsessive barker if not given the attention and exercise it needs. Due to the fact they are small and extremely cute, certain dominance issues may go unnoticed and these can develop into serious problems such as aggression and separation anxiety issues. If they are not given sufficient mental and physical stimulation they can easily become bored and develop destructive behavior such as chewing.

As mentioned before, these dogs require regular grooming because of their thick fur and dense undercoat but because of their dry skin, frequent bathing may result in irritation. Bathing should be restricted to every two or three months except in cases when they become very dirty or develop a strong odor. The Miniature Eskimo is a very clean dog by nature and will regularly groom himself.
The Eskie is a hardy breed that can live up to 15 years. Health issues these dogs are susceptible to include flea allergies, hip dysplasia, deafness, luxating patella, cataracts, retinal atrophy and urinary tract problems. Other more rare health issues the breed is prone to are epilepsy, Legg-Calve-Perthes disease and diabetes.

The Miniature Eskimo dog can be a finicky eater and you should include fresh food in the diet to satisfy nutritional requirements. They are prone to obesity if not exercises sufficiently and special care should be taken concerning their eyes and tear ducts for early detection of progressive retinal atrophy. They are delightful little dogs and entertaining companions but do your research before getting one, they are not low maintenance dogs.
