This wonderful breed are becoming more and more popular (if you can get hold of a breeder in your area) and have so many fantastic traits that you can enjoy as the owner. If you are thinking about getting one of these breeds we have provided as much information as we could write to make your choice a little more informed and a little easier.

So lets get started...

A Quick Fact File

This breed have a very short and quite dense coat that is course to the touch.

The famous appearance of 'blue' is actually causes by speckled mottling. Basically lots of black and white dashes give the apparance of blue when looked at from certain angles in a certain light. This colouring appears over the entire body. However, the head is normally black with little brown patches near to the muzzle.

The ears are droopy and hang low by the side of the head - they are quite long and can reach the nose.

The eyes are set quite wide apart and should be dark in colour. Their eyesight is very good and the dog can work well even at night.

This breed are good with children and also friendly around the family.

They can be at times a little aggressive with other dogs so you need to be aware of this when out for a walk.

They are very intelligent and have a tendency of greeting strangers by sniffing them and howling at them until they are told to stop.

They grow to about 27 inches and can weigh anywhere from 45 up to 80 pounds.

They can live up to an age of twelve years of age.

This breed do need lots of exercise and can have a tendency to run off if they get a scent - this is the Hound genes in the breed.

Blue Tick Hounds are a wonderful breed to own but you do need to think it through carefully as they can be a lot of work - some would say high maintenance.
